Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department provides services from a team-centered approach. Licensed physical, occupational, and recreational therapists, along with speech pathologists work together to provide expertise in the return of lost physical functions. We also provide specialized physical therapy and rehabilitative services for our Treasure Coast Trauma patients, including aquatic rehabilitation.  Our team also is specialized in getting Stroke, and Cardiac patients moving again.

Our purpose is to contribute greatly to the successful improvement in functional abilities, which leads to independence among our patients. Programs are customized to meet the special needs of each individual patient.

Whether you are recovering from a traumatic injury, reconstructive surgery, chronic condition, or sports injury, the professional and friendly staff at the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department can help. We take the time to teach you how to overcome your injury and prevent future injuries from occuring. Therapists will specifically design a home program to help you continue progressing even after therapy is complete.

The Lawnwood Rehabilitation Center, located at the Pavilion near the main campus, is a 34-bed inpatient and outpatient facility. Patients are offered 24 hour rehabilitation nursing along with the interdisplinary approach provided through our Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Department. All care is directed by a full-time medical director, trained to meet the special needs of our patients. Additional members of every patient's treatment team include social workers, case managers and discharge planners, psychologists, and dieticians. The team creates a highly individualized treatment plan which focuses on potential not limitations.

The Rehabilitation Center also offers cancer management, including pain management and referral for adaptive and durable medical equipment to assist cancer patients in maximizing independence. Individual and family counseling, as well as social interventions, are provided.
